United Way's Cardboard Boat Race Launches Aug. 26

Charity News Fox Valley United Way is accepting registrations and seeking volunteers for its 4th Annual “What Floats Your Boat Cardboard Boat” Race on Saturday August 26 at the Illinois Avenue boat launch on the Fox River.

Participants will launch boats made of cardboard by the Prisco Community Center and race to North River Street Park. The fun-filled family event serves as the kick-off event for the Fox Valley United Way’s annual campaign.

Race medals are guaranteed for all registered participants. Prizes are awarded for first, second and third place finishers as well as the People’s Choice, the Judge’s Choice and The Wonder That Went Down Under – The Most Spectacular Sinking Award.

After the race, the awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with the campaign kick-off rally in North River Street Park. Lunch will be provided for participants and spectators as well as free children’s games.

Registration forms must be received by August 18 to enter the race. Volunteers are also needed to help run the event.

Fox Valley United Way’s mission is to measurably improve the lives in its communities. Fox Valley United Way is an independent organization that serves Aurora, Big Rock, Bristol, Hinckley, Little Rock, Millbrook, Montgomery, North Aurora, Oswego, Plano, Sugar Grove and Yorkville in southern Kane and Kendall counties.
